ID Logistics rolls out vision-based picking control with Stereolabs

A world-first deployment of 3D vision on picking carts, now scaling across Europe

In high-volume logistics, every second — and every item — counts. For ID Logistics, a global leader in contract logistics with 450 sites in 18 countries, continuously improving accuracy and efficiency in warehouse operations is critical.

To push their innovation strategy even further, the company turned to Stereolabs to tackle one of the most persistent challenges in the warehouse: picking accuracy.

The challenge: picking errors in a fast-moving environment

In a warehouse, quantity errors during picking — such as missed or extra items — create a ripple effect: delays, customer complaints, and costly returns. For ID Logistics, preventing these errors in real time was essential to improve service quality and reduce operational friction.

No market solution offered a way to automatically verify quantity with visual proof — until now.

“In fast-paced operations, you need technology that adapts to people, not the other way around. That’s what we were looking for,” explains Benoit Boiron, Global Head of Innovation & Expertise at ID Logistics.

SmartVision – real-time parcel counting with 3D vision

Working closely with Stereolabs, ID Logistics launched SmartVision, a parcel-counting system powered by real-time 3D vision and onboard AI. The system integrates directly into picking carts, using Stereolabs’ ZED X stereo cameras and ZED Box NX edge computing to detect and count parcels as they are placed on the pallet.

Each cart is equipped with two cameras and one edge device. The AI-powered app, developed in collaboration with Stereolabs, immediately flags discrepancies between what should be picked and what is actually placed.

Integrated with ID Logistics’ warehouse management system (WMS), the solution fits seamlessly into the operator’s daily workflow — no extra steps, no interruptions.

The solution was fully tailored to ID Logistics’ operations, from cart dimensions to picking logic, and is designed to scale across multiple warehouses and countries.

      Real-time traceability and fewer errors

With SmartVision, errors are no longer discovered after the fact. Instead, operators are alerted in real time, and product picking process is recorded through video-based traceability.

      Key outcomes:
      • +0.2% improvement in overall service rate through real-time error detection
      • Returns and complaints were divided by 4 during early deployments
      • Scalable rollout: already deployed on 15 carts, with 60+ additional forklifts in the pipeline across Europe

Beyond the numbers, the system also brought unexpected benefits. By analyzing operator movements, the team uncovered opportunities for ergonomics, safety improvements, and training optimization.

The SmartVision project was awarded at the Agora Awards in France — a great recognition from industry professionals.

“The SmartVision project combines operational performance and technological excellence. By working with Stereolabs, we were able to bring a real innovation to our picking process, with immediate results in accuracy and traceability.” — Benoit Boiron, Global Head of Innovation & Expertise, ID Logistics.

Agora Awards for Stereolabs & ID Logistic

A scalable innovation, born in France and spreading across Europe

This project marks the first-ever deployment of 3D vision technology on picking carts — and it started in France. After proving its efficiency, ID Logistics is scaling the solution to sites across Europe as part of its broader smart warehouse roadmap.

The collaboration is far from over. ID Logistics and Stereolabs are already exploring new use cases, including gesture and posture analysis to support ergonomics, safety, and training — all powered by the same core technology.

AI & 3D vision for smart warehousing

For ID Logistics, innovation is not only at the service of its customers but also of its employees, giving them smarter tools. AI and spatial computing are key to unlocking better decision-making, automation, and resilience across the supply chain.

And Stereolabs? According to ID Logistics, they’re more than a tech provider — they’re a true partner.

“Stereolabs provides, on a daily basis, a true partnership — co-developing, testing, and refining a solution that delivers measurable value.” — Camille Josseaux, Business Unit Manager Logistics & Smart Infrastructure, Stereolabs
